FAQ

  1. Is this legal?
Yes. The U.S. Senate passed the Fair Credit Reporting Act on April 12, 1971 to ensure that the credit reporting agencies report credit accurately.
  2. What do you do?
We are a team of professionals that specialize in credit recovery or “credit clean up.” Your credit report controls many aspects of your life. Our mission is to successfully assist you in the removal of unwanted items, commonly referred to as negative items, currently reporting on your credit reports. The methods we use are backed by more than 20 years of experience in the credit recovery industry.
  3. How do you get the credit bureaus to remove negatives off of credit reports?
We use the Fair Credit Reporting Act passed by congress on April 12, 1971 to ensure that the credit reporting agencies report credit accurately. All negative items on credit reports are filled with inaccuracies. We use these inaccuracies along with dispute letters and letters from our attorneys who work for you to get the credit bureaus to remove the negatives off of your credit reports.
  4. Will the negatives stay off once they are removed?
The Fair Credit Reporting Act clearly states that if an item is not verified within a 30-day period, that such an item must be permanently deleted from the credit report. Although uncommon, items sometimes reappear. If that happens, those items can be removed instantly by notifying the credit bureaus of their previous deletion.
  5. How long will this take?
We have found that on the average, we can usually remove, if not all the negatives, the vast majority of the negatives off of a credit report in about 6 months. Our contract, however, is for a full year since we certainly have had clients that have taken the full year to have the negatives removed.
  6. How much will this cost?
A one time charge of $995, plus a one time $100 registration fee charge. This is a one time charge. We will not charge you again.
  7. Will this raise my credit score?
No legitimate credit clean up company will guarantee a raise in your credit score because your credit score is based on many things. Not the least of which is how much positive credit you have on your credit report. However, if you are looking to raise your credit score, removing the negative items off of your credit report is an absolutely necessary first step. You will never achieve a high credit rating without removing the negative items first. However, on the average, most of our clients do see a rise in their scores as the negative are being removed. That is also why our program offers many other services included in your one time charge that will help you raise your credit score.
  8. Can you really get bankruptcies, liens and judgments off of credit reports? I thought they had to remain on my credit report for a period of seven to ten years.
There is nothing further from the truth. There is no law that states that bad credit must remain on a credit report for seven to ten years. In fact, there is no law that states that creditors must report your credit history at all. Any item may remain on your credit report for seven to ten years; however, there is no law that states it must remain.
  9. Are there any kinds of negative items that you have not been able to get the credit bureaus to remove? All types of negative listings--even bankruptcies and judgments--have been removed from credit reports, and have been thousands of times. Courts do not report information to credit bureaus. When a public record item is disputed, the credit bureaus must send an employee to the courthouse to verify such information. Often this cannot be done within the allotted 30 day time period, and the negative items are permanently deleted from the credit file.
  10. Should I try and pay creditors/debts off?
Because creditors and the credit bureaus seem to treat each person differently, we will refer you to the correct financial advisor who will evaluate your credit reports and will advise our clients on a case to case basis.
  11. Why can’t I do this myself?
Disputing the credit report is easy, but getting results from the credit bureaus is very difficult. You can certainly try and clean your credit reports yourself, however, we have found that without the aid of an attorney and specifically written dispute letters that we as a company are constantly modifying to fit the ever changing rules and regulations regarding credit and credit bureau policies, most of our clients have experienced nothing but frustration in trying to clean their own credit reports. Furthermore, because we utilize a network of attorneys which share information and methodologies, more effective techniques are derived on a consistent basis which an individual themselves would never be privy to.
  12. If my credit dispute is unresolved and I file a “100 word consumer statement” with the credit bureau as suggested on the report, will creditors read the statement and take it into consideration?  No. A 100 word statement is an admission of guilt to creditors and only serves to verify the negatives on the report.
  13. If I declare bankruptcy, will my credit report become a clean slate?
Declaring bankruptcy does not erase bad credit. For their own interest, some bankruptcy attorneys may not adequately explain the effects of bankruptcy to their clients, leading to misconceptions.
  14. Will going to a Consumer Credit Counseling Service (CCCS) help me to restore my credit?
CCCS is a non-profit debt counseling service that assists those who are in debt. CCCS companies are controlled by the creditors and the credit bureaus. The fact is, if you are in a CCCS program, and it is reported to the credit bureau, creditors will treat you as if you had declared a Chapter 13 bankruptcy.
  15. Is it illegal for a collection agency or creditor to change or delete a negative entry on my credit report?  There is no law which states that credit must be reported at all. Collection agencies and creditors can change or even delete any negative entries. Any disputed or incorrect negative entries can be removed.
  16. What is the difference between you and other credit clean up companies?
Credit Management Resources, through its affiliation with a non-profit organization, utilizes a nationwide network of attorneys who share information and methodologies. In essence it is thousands of attorneys working on your behalf, not just one. In fact, many so-called credit repair companies do not even use the aid of an attorney. Credit Management Resources also offers tools such as visa cards, financing, learning products and many ancillary services (click on services) to fully help our clients recover their credit standing and achieve their financial goals. We are truly looking out for our clients future, not just their present.
